This is great news--it does kind of raise the hopes that maybe Sony will let someone put out the whole show. Maybe this is "testing the waters" just a little bit? And yeah, "Citizen Ghost" and "Take Two" would be the most logical episodes by far. In addition to being the ones most directly related to the movie, they also just happen to be two of the very best ones.

Every toon-related board I visit is talking abouit this, just as every board has at least two or three RGB on DVD topics. Maybe Sony will get the hint and finally give us the guys on DVD?
Can't wait for August!!!

Can't wait for August!!! I really hope this is the case. There are many episodes of RGB that I haven't seen in donkey's years. I've brought the RGB DVDs that were released over here, but just two DVDs with 4 episodes on each just aren't enough when there were over 100 episodes of RGB produced.

It's about time! I can't wait to get it and I hope that they put whole show out on DVD. That's great, indeed! ;D

I agree, those were the two episodes I would have chosen if I had a say in the production, because they're the ones that tie into the movie the most.

"Take Two" might be a controversial choice though, as it directly implies that the RGBs are the "real thing" and that the movie is a cinematic adaptation of their entry into business and battle with Gozer. A view I buy into entirely, but it would piss off some people.
"Citizen Ghost" would be ideal for one of the episodes. For the other though I'd choose an episode that had no relation or reference to the movie, as it would show those not familiar with RGB that the show could stand on its own two feet rather than drawing its power directly from the movie.

Found this link that gives a little more detail about the new DVD set if anybody’s interested www.protoncharging.com/ghostbusters/Also mentions that the UK's Titan Books' plans to reprint the old Marvel UK comics, starting with volume one, A Hard Day's Fright. Good news for anyone that’s into them, (I know I am!), I know it would be of some interest to Kingpin, if you're listening. I've been waiting years to get all the issues I missed as a kid.

And this is coming from someone who spent years picking apart Ghostbuster continuity. Yeah, I can see that point. Just about any JMS episode or other Season 1 episode would fit the bill. Even a later JMS entry....say a certain Season 5 episode that got the show an Emmy nomination? Nah, that'd be too much to hope for.

Taken from a message at GBC...
"The two-disc GHOSTBUSTERS GIFT SET presents both groundbreaking comedies with newly remastered video, along with a collectible scrapbook created especially for this edition, audio commentary with Ivan Reitman, Harold Ramis and Joe Medjuck, three featurettes, deleted scenes, storyboards and two ectoplasmic episodes from the hilarious 1988 animated television series “Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters,” all for the very earthly price of $19.94"
Looks like the two episodes are gonna be from the Slimer! era of the show. Strange choice if you ask me.

They could be using the "Slimer and" title as an ignorant blanket name for the whole series, just because it's longer. This is no guarantee they'll be taking episodes from later seasons.

I sure hope not. The lone exception I mentioned in my above post is about the only post-1987 episode worthy of being in the set--but even then, given a choice, I'd rather have two early JMS episodes with the original voice cast (Music, Welker, LaMarche, Hall, and Summer)
Put in "Afterlife in the Fast Lane" and "the Magnificent Five" and people will be going "Kids watched that crap for seven years?!"

Well, all is not lost - we could end up with eps like "Flip Side", "Standing Room Only", "Future Tense" etc. which while not on a par with earlier classics are still superior to pretty much 99.9% of today's cartoons. Look on the bright side - they could be selecting two EGB episodes instead

Ouch. (They could use Back in the Saddle, but it would make no sense unless you knew how it was connected to RGB)...I'm babbling again...

It's a little strange that out of all episodes of RGB they decide to choose Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters episodes in order to promote the cartoon series. Why not some of the more successful earlier episodes, or the ones already mentioned that tie-in with the movies? Surely that would make more sense, and could possibly create a new audience for an RGB DVD for those who weren't aware that the cartoon series existed.
