Due to a Youtube video somebody mentioned on GBI, and linked here, which splices RGB footage to the 1986 hit "Rock Me Amadeus" (anybody who read Digibusters Part 3 might guess I like that song) it made me wonder...we never established a middle name for Professor Spengler, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a rather precocious genius sorta like Egon (albeit in music instead of science)...could we see Edison and Katharine tagging their son similarly? Could Egon's full GBOT name be Egon Amadeus Spengler? It is of Germanic extraction (Mozart was Austrian, which is right next to Germany, and they speak a dialect of German) so it fits the rest of his name linguistically. And as I just mentioned, it's the name of another genius of a field. It could even somehow be part of the cause of Egon's preference for classical music. I dunno....just a wierd thought I had. I'm opening it up to discussion before I decide to "establish" it (and quietly go and insert it into the GBNY pages and stories like "Forever"). So if you like it, let me know. If you think I'm full of crap, likewise.

Personally I don't care ether way but it would be fun to see Egon wins when Janine yells at him " Egon Amadeus Spengler " I will say that Egon mom would give him that name in the hope that he would become a artistic genius . In and at the end of Egon's dragon he plays a a flout that could suggest that at may be he had music lessons . we could say that Katharine pushed Egon in to the classical art's but when Egon started talking about the boogie man Edison put a stop to it. Edison probably thought that it was ruining Egon mined and that's when Edison decided to push Egon in to science even harder . The way Edison is pro-trade makes it seams like he wonted a living computer then a sun . I would like to think that he just wonted what he thought was best for Egon and may be instilled some own hang up into Egon. I personally thought that the ghost Edison of after seeing his sun become nodus time after time he some how made Egon think withe his hart and not chows Knowledge in ( Nodus ) .

Ah Fritz, I have to disagree with this. Everyone can be shocked, I know I am. But I have always had it in my mind that Egon has no middle name, especially after NOW #28. I think that he was only named Egon Spengler, the hope being that "Doctor" would one day replace Egon as a sort of first name, "Yes, my name is Doctor Egon Spengler." And I think that seems like something his parents would have done. Of course, you can do whatever you want. Sorry I haven't really been on BTW, I have been interviewing like crazy for jobs lately and my power cord on my lap top litterally frayed apart and I had to order a new one. I am also completely stuck on my writting, I hit rough patches on every story I started it seems and I am trying to work out the plot to get around the issues. Wish me luck. ghostdiva

Oh. Well, okay. Banned.
Kidding, of course.
I thought this idea was strange enough I shouldn't just do it (if I didn't think there'd be any controversy I would have just done it).
I admit, I like little details like this. I hate the cartoons and other shows where they're too lazy to even give a character a last name; EGB started off with a little bit of that, in that nobody had a full name until "Grease" (if I recall correctly, and I remember being a bit miffed about it before that and ready to create some fan names) It was why I gave a set of full names to the "GB3" characters in "Gemini Rising"
It's certainly not a necessary thing--we've gotten along fine so far with middle names only for Ray and Venkman. But while I don't want to push I also like the idea of eventually filling in these blanks.

I think all of their surnames are mentioned on subsequent occasions, with the exception of Kylie's. Anyway, I'm abstaining from the vote because I'm not fussed. I will say, however, that it's not unheard of for pushy parents to name their children after famous people in some far-fetched hope of them being equally successful. Where am I getting this from? Martina Hingis was named after Martina Navratilova, arguably the greatest female tennis player of all time. (Hingis went on to win some very prestigious titles in her teens, and looked like she was all set to dominate the game for years to come, but then she lost it by the time she hit twenty.) It sounds to me like a superstitious thing to do, if they were naming him after Mozart, although you haven't actually suggested that that's what they would be doing. In Danny Phantom, Sam Manson is obviously a nod to Marylin Manson (she's Goth) - so I'm bound to think that linking fictional characters to famous people with names can be a nice touch. That was helpful, wasn't it?

That's a hideous middle name! I was actually thinking about middle names for the guys and Janine recently. Being that their names use up almost all the letters of the alphabet even without middle names. I thought it'd be funny if their middle names did end up using all the letters of the alphabet. Peter already has Charles and Ray already had Francis. I chose Quinn for Egon. Barbara for Janine. Xerxes for Winston. Shrugs.

I have 4 middle names, and I like the concept, but I don't think Egon needs one. (for those interested: My Middle names are Theodor, Alexander, Dietrich, Christian)
