Ghostbusters: A Bit of Family BusinessEgon's thirtieth birthday is livened by the arrival of Dr. Ellis Spengler and his daughter. And Ellis is bringing an offer that his half-brother may not be able to refuse... And if you remember who Egon's niece is, this story is a special treat for fans of the franchise team Nightsquad.

Awww....that was so cute. I got all teary-eyed. I love everything that Egon said in his illogical statement about staying in New York. I laughed at the picture. Amazing how much the two men look alike. Good job. I really liked it.

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. The incredible resemblance between Egon and Ellis was intentional, of course. Due to episodes such as "If I Were A Witch Man" and "Egon's Dragon", one gets the impression that that look runs very strongly through the Spengler men's genes. Johnathan Christopher, Egon's son, manages to get away from it a little bit by virtue of having some stubborn genes passed to him by his mother

I really loved this little character piece. I like how Ellis took the news of Egon's staying much better than Cyrus did, although I can imagine Cyrus' reaction when Ellis gets around to telling him of Egon's decision. I also loved little Jen, her excitement of all things Ghostbusters and her decision of what she wants to be when she grows up.

Well, of course Jen's future, in part, is already written--she's one of the founding members of the Ghostbusters: Nightsquad franchise. This story, in fact, grew out of my wanting to reconcile their backstory with the canonical material, and that had two problems: 1. Their origin was written as taking place as an offshoot of GB1, way back in 1984. And 2. Egon is treated in the canon as an only child. The first point I've worked with Bo Holbrook on some, and he's agreed to try my idea of rewriting the origin to tie in to "Back In The Saddle" (1997), which vastly improves the age dilemma. He's posted parts of the revised origin in progress on their message board. Working with Jen to create and define Ellis Spengler and his somewhat tragic backstory was designed to answer the second point. By having them be technically half-brothers who weren't raised together, Jen can still be Egon's niece and Egon can still be essentially raised an only child. Once again, I would like to thank Bo and Jen for their cooperation in these matters. And I'm glad they're being so well recieved so far.
