www.politicalcompass.org/I found this site interesting, as it breaks down things a little more completely that just "left/right"; basically it asks you some questions that determine whether your leanings are to the left or right, but also libertarian or authoritarian, creating four "sectors" of political philosophy. Mine came up: Which put me pretty squarely in the Libertarian Left sector.

That's so cool! This was me: Let's see... my little red dot is right, slap-bang in the middle of the Libetarian Left sector. I'll confess: I don't know exactly what the numbers mean. I couldn't be bothered with the long explanations. But I think the chart is telling me I'm a communist. And an anarchist. Cool. EDIT: Ok, you can stop thinking I'm stupid (at least for the time being). I think I've figured out more or less what the numbers mean.

Leaning more toward anarchist than anything else. No surprises there. I never did like the idea of, y'know, people telling me what to do or things not just being free for the taking...I'd just consider myself extremely lazy though.

Not bad. I particularly like the fact that I seem to be the complete political opposite of Tony Blair. ;D

Is this thing stacked to the left? I'm sure I was more right wing... Still, I hate Tony Blair, and I will be there when Commons burns... ... What? The questions did seem a tad biased at times, though.

The questions did seem a tad biased at times, though. Well, no questionnaire of this nature is ever going to be perfect. There's always going to be some bias, not least in the wording of the questions. I agree it wasn't foolproof - the questions on education, for example, weren't exactly generic throughout all cultures - but I think whoever came up with it did as well as could be expected. A few years ago I did a test on-line to measure my morality. Whoever devised the thing had obviously based it entirely on their own opinion of what was moral; saying that I thought abortion was acceptable, and I would condone euthenasia under some circumstances (the questionnaire didn't allow me to specify which circumstances, I might add), I ended up with a morality level of about 32%. The thing is, with this, there's no right or wrong answers or anything to imply that your opinion is in any way unreasonable. So, the point is, I think it's pretty good.

Just slightly more conservative and slightly more anarchist than Fritz (or if you prefer, slightly more liberal than Kingpin and Slightly More authoritarian than EGBFan). In any case, I'm fairly deep into the "Tree-hugging Hippie" range of the chart.
We need to get Don to take this test and see where he stands.

I approve of the House of Commons in theory, but I watch the BBC News and I've seen what goes on in there. Well, all media institutions show what they want us to see, and the BBC are just... blagh, hate them (so why watch their news programme? I dunno). But even so, if they don't grow up and start using the House of Commons properly, I might be tempted to burn it myself. I'll let you know, Ben - you can come with me and distract security.
Now the House of Lords - they need a serious slap round the face. All of them. D'you know what the House of Lords is, everybody? It's a load of, um, lords, surprisingly, who are in there just for being lords - not because anybody likes or respects them or anything, it's a birth right (fnar!) - and they decide between them whether they like a rule that we, the people of Britain, have voted on. If they don't like it, they can overrule it, just like that. Well, I mean, we can have the vote again, and then again - they can overrule it three times. Ha... fox hunting. But. We won't get into that now. It's not really relevant.
Actually, much of that wasn't relevant to the original topic: the political compass. It started in response to what Ben and Jeremy said, and then sort of went off on a tangent. I do that sometimes. All the time. Sorry. Ok, I'll shut up.

Economic Left/Right: -5.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.59
Heh. I'm a slightly anarchistic communist. Which doesn't really surprise me one bit.

Is this thing stacked to the left? I'm sure I was more right wing... Still, I hate Tony Blair, and I will be there when Commons burns... ... What? The questions did seem a tad biased at times, though. That's because it IS biased... Some of those questions have nothing to do with politics. The test says that I'm: Economic Left/Right: -1.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.18 ....and I know I'm a right-wing conservative. I don't think religion, abortion, or homosexuality should have anything to do with politics, regardless if I consider abortion or homosexuality wrong. I don't think it was a fair test, actually.
