Call me a heretic, but I didn't really mind the changes in the Special Editions and the 2004 DVDs. Well, with a couple of tiny exceptions--Greedo shooting first was lame; and I thought it was scarier when you didn't really get a good look at the Wampa.
That being said, I am pleased they're finally getting off their asses and putting the original theatrical cuts out there. Even as a person who didn't mind Lucas's revisions, I still think this is a good idea.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's some serious George Lucas sucking up going on... first I'm brow beaten for not wanting Ben Stiller in GB3, and now it seems I'm getting persecuted because I felt that Lucas owed us a DVD set without the travesties he made...
But yeah, glad an unedited version is out, but the thing is I agreed with most of the changes, the special effect upgrades definately, all george had to do was simply reshoot the emporer scenes and it would've been fine.

I personally don't see what the big deal is about the reshot/redone scenes, but then I'll admit I'm not a huge SW fan. My son, on the other hand, thinks these should have been out years ago. *scratches head* Yes, I'll pick them up for him, but only because he no longer has the SE DVDs.
Boy, am I glad they never did this to Ghostbusters...

The beef I had w/Geo Lucas is that he was so stubborn on the DVD issue...he woulda held out forever if enough fans didn't complain. (There's $ in this release Geo, duh. !@$*&%$#) He won't a coal lump in his stocking this yr....

Hah, well... the conversation itself has now died... but I'll try did it up if you're still interested in it.
It was mostly the suggestion of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, who I quite frankly don't believe are the right material for a Ghostbusters movie.
Vince Vaughn, maybe. Wilson on his own... a possibility. But those guys together do slapstick and not the subtle kind like in Ghostbusters.

I like Ben Stiller. I agree that the character he has so far always played wouldn't fit into the kind of GB movie I myself personally would like to see. But maybe he's a more diverse actor than he's given credit for, and he'd do it really well. Or maybe, if the movie was made, they'd wreck it anyway with our without Ben Stiller. Or maybe it'll never happen. If we're talking remakes (which I think we are), personally I've yet to see one I like - we'll just have to see.

Ben Stiller seems to play variations of/on himself & not deep, well developed characters (& other comic actors as well).

Heh heh...this is funny. A Miscellaneous topic that's somehow ended up about Ghostbusters... Not to defend Ben Stiller or anything, but I think some people not as familiar with his later work would probably say the same thing about Bill Murray. "He played the same skirt-chasing smartass in Ghostbusters that he played in Stripes etc." And, er, to actually be on topic, some of the guys in the Starwars.com boards are still bitching, this time about the transfer not being "cleaned up", in an older Dolby format, and "not being in anamorphic wide screen." Not being "cleaned up" or in state-of-the-art Dolby? Gosh, I thought they wanted it totally unaltered. Make up yousa minds...

Gosh, I thought they wanted it totally unaltered. Make up yousa minds... Honeslty, I wonder if some Star Wars fans set new records for bitchiness and insatiable appetites... what would 'unaltered' mean other then what's written on the box? It's probably gonna be a while before the 'anamorphic, cleaned up with reasonable changes' edition is released.

I'm glad we GB fans aren't like that . I mean, all we want is a decent GB2 release, and for RGB/EGB to see the light of day...
