Last Wednesday I ordered the book Making Ghostbusters from Amazon.com. Cost me 75 bucks total, but it was worth it! Get this- I got it last Friday! Talk about fast! Anyway, what I found interesting was the deleted endings- including a Las Vegas wedding between a certain couple Fritz just hitched up! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I had no idea that you had never heard that before, I can imagine your surprise. Its a very good book, read it a couple of times, I love where it admits E/J are a couple and then says that they left it out of the movie because it didn't have anything to do with Gozer. To paraphrase of course ghostdiva

In the notes Harold Ramis says that all the E/J scenes (the coin, more dialogue in other scenes) were shot, but not used because the focus of the film was the comedy, and I guess they didn't want the focus taken away from Peter and Dana.

And yet, in hindsight, which couple ended up more popular with the fandom as a whole?
I'm sorry--on this issue, Ramis is an ass.

I was under the impression that that was what this thread was for, to come together under that assuption and get out all of our aggressions. :DI've already explained my thoughts on this...mainly that I think his wife had something to with his mind changing. ghostdiva

From what the book says, and anyone who has it can back me up, the whole Peter/Dana thing actually came late. Originally her and Louis were really Vinz and Zuul in human form, trying to hide FROM Gozer, and Peter had no idea when he went out with her. Eventually it was decided to have her be their first client, and to then have Peter fall for her.
Hey, all I wanted to do was gloat that I finally got this book (and about Amazon's great service!)! ;D But it does give a LOT of insights as to why it went the way it did. The book is based on the fourth draft of the script, the one they shot from, although a lot of stuff is different from what ended up on screen.

I know what you meant Miss Janine, I was teasin' Fritz, its just now, you get to be on the in joke side of this whole thing. Its the only place to be really. Dana was originally a dumb model too, I thought that was interesting. Now you can understand why Fritz did not list Harold in his acknowledgments, only mentioning him in the disclaimer. (I 100% agree with that by the way) ghostdiva

And yet, in hindsight, which couple ended up more popular with the fandom as a whole? Thanks to J. Michael Straczynski (and others who know a good couple when they see one) for that. ;D No arguments here. I know I particularly enjoyed in 'Forever' how you mentioned Janine had to be talked into inviting him to the wedding. Heh, good thing he didn't go. Knowing her, he wouldn't have survived past the reception. At least he only screwed up the second movie and stayed the heck away from the cartoon. He left the people who knew what they were doing well-enough alone. *Breathes a huge sigh of relief*

I was wondering about why his name wasn't there in the beginning. All I could think of when I read the line about Janine having to be talked into inviting him was "she hasn't forgotten OR forgiven." I thought it might have been a nice middle finger to him to have him see it have a happy ending after all. I noticed Bill wasn't there, either. I'll bet Dan and Ernie had a blast. ghostdiva- its just now, you get to be on the in joke side of this whole thing. Hahahaha ;D OK, you got me. ;D Just noticed- no matter what the thread, we end up talking about "Forever". ;D

Harold Ramis may be able to help co write a wacky sci fi, or a interesting time loop film... but the guy seems to know bupkiss when it comes to romance.
He never should have downplayed the Egon and Janine issue, it's his own fault it failed with getting so many scenes cut from the film...
At any rate, Making Ghostbusters is a great book and piece of reference... the Firehouse interior in the film was originally planned to resemble something like the one in the cartoon. Although, I think I got my book for about £30 on eBay.

I'm not a big fan of eBay (if I see it, I want it, and don't like it when I'm outbid at the last second), but I've had four very good experiences with Amazon, and I could NOT pass up the chance to get that book. And I thought of RGB when I saw the firehouse models, too. And as far as HR writing romance, he admitted in the book that writing women isn't his strong suit. In fact, Sigourney Weaver herself had a lot of input into what Dana Barrett eventually became.
One of the most interesting parts of it were the many early versions of the Terror Dogs, and the MANY changes Gozer went through, including the fact that Stay-Puft was only intended to be an intermediate form before Gozer became something REALLY horrible. And the photo breakdown of Peck getting nailed with the marshmallow was great- I cheer every time I see that scene!
The biggest surprise concerns the story I heard somewhere that Bill agreed to do GB only if Columbia let him do The Razor's Edge. According to the book, he was already doing RE when Dan approached him with the idea of doing GB, and Bill agreed practically right away.

I sure hope Jeff sees this line, and it amuses him as much as it does me.
Er, anyway, sorry for sending this thread in such an ugly direction. It really is a good find, Miss Janine, and if I had the money I'd've been tempted to do it also.

It really is a good find, Miss Janine, and if I had the money I'd've been tempted to do it also. The reason it surprised me is that I had always thought that was the reason Bill did GB, to get a film made he really wanted to do. It could still be true, but the book doesn't give any indication. And no need to apologize. The whole issue bugs me, too, since that seems to be the main point of the anti-E/Jers, that HR didn't want them together. Like you said, other writers and the fans feel differently. And let's just say the hubby doesn't know about my purchase. He knows I got it, but he'd flip if he found out how much I paid for it.

Congrats on the find; I've been tempted a few times to buy it, but it's OOP which raises the price. If a 3rd film was ever made, I'd wish they do something w/the E/J relationship, & get a female writer because both can't write females roles (or rolemodels) decently or realistically.
