Well, we have a favourite episode thread (seems I'm the only one with favourite EGP episodes - weird) - but sometimes individual scenes stick out on their own. So here is a thread for the scenes that really stuck out in people's memories: that's EGB or RGB, and the scenes you liked for whatever reason - whether they were moving, funny or whatever.
Unsurprisingly, I have quite a list from EGB, which I've divided into three categories: action - cool action sequences, obviously (well, just the one actually); comedy - scenes that raise a smile of amusement at the very least; and character - my favourite kind, those great character moments. So:
Action
“The Infernal Machine”
This episode has a pretty cool action sequence, leading on from Garrett being taken to a construction site and pushed over some kind of precipice by the entity, which inhabits machinery. This then leads to Garrett hanging by a cord of some kind that he’s managed to find, while the other three Ghostbusters ascend a very tall set of scaffolding in pursuit of the entity. Said entity of course gets into all kinds of machinery up there: the elevator, the proton guns, a couple of power tools… As usual it’s Kylie who ends up in need of rescue, when she somehow gets into a position of dangling from the scaffolding by the string of her proton gun (since when did it have string??), which of course snaps just as Roland and Eduardo are about to pull her to safety and they have to grab her wrists etc. While she’s hanging she throws down that weird body armour she wears, presumably to reduce the weight on the string, wire, whatever it is; it lands next to Garrett, which leads to a line that isn’t funny in itself, but the delivery is beautiful: “What are you doing up there?” And at one point the entity (I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten its name) gets into a circular saw, which occurrence leads to the blade becoming detached and throwing itself at Garrett’s head (he’s still hanging for all this time, I might add). It’s a lot of fun.
Comedy
“The Ghostmakers”
This is just a dumb little scene, really, but for some reason it’s sticking out in my mind. Eduardo has been possessed by one of the title entities, and even though he’s spent most of the episode talking like a robot, nobody seems to have noticed. He volunteers himself and Garrett to wash up after lunch. Garrett says something along the lines of, “Thanks for putting me on the spot there.” Eduardo replies, “I don’t know what you mean, Garrett. But tell me - what’s that on your chin?” Tell me. Like the real Eduardo would say that. So anyway, Garrett overreacts with an extremely panicked and very funny, “A zit? Whu - ah - is it a zit?” Eduardo/entity then hands him a phenomenally shiny plate, which he has fixed so that the demons living in all the mirrors can possess Garrett and such, and which Garrett takes with an affable smile on his face. Then, at the last moment before Garrett falls victim to the ghostmakers, Janine comes into the kitchen and announces that they have a call. Garrett - get this - just drops the plate, and it smashes into five or six pieces. Then he leaves. Eduardo/entity looks annoyed and breaks the plate further with a stamp of the foot. It sounds like a pretty lame scene when you type it all out like this, but I dunno, it always raises a smile.
“Grease”
A lot of very funny scenes in this one - those FBI guys have been used in a million shows in one form or another, but they’re still great to watch. I’m going to pick two scenes from this one. The first is another Garrett/Eduardo moment, in which they’re both in an elevator with a gremlin on top of it.
Eduardo: We’re gonna die, man! (Grabs Garrett’s lapels and shakes him.) WE’RE GONNA DIE!
Garrett: Shut up, get up there and stop it!
Eduardo: W-why don’t you?
(Garrett gestures helplessly at his wheelchair.)
Eduardo: Oh, all right, all right!
And he does. It’s one of those scenes that shows Eduardo to be pretty useless so we can laugh at his expense, and as a general rule I don’t like those scenes, but this one isn’t at all overdone and I happen to think his reaction is pretty reasonable.
And, nearing the end of the episode, the scene on the plane. So much great stuff goes on here, most of it very comic. Agent Stone examining the ghost trap: “It’s a bomb! We’ll have to defuse it!” Then Garrett getting himself out of the handcuffs: “What am I gonna do? Run away? Look at me! My legs… are useless!” *extremely fake sounding sobs* He then chases after the gremlin, undeterred even when it dismantles his chair. The gremlin’s tearing the plane apart, of course, and Stone thinks it’s Garrett: “That maniac! He’s sabotaging the plane!” And what I should have mentioned is that Slimer has also got on board. Stone sees him, runs to the Ghostbusters screaming, releases them from their bonds and instructs them to deal with the gremlin. On seeing Slimer: “That’s not a gremlin!” Then, predictably, Garrett bursts up through a hatch in the floor - without his chair of course - vociferously wrestling with the gremlin, and Roland says, perfectly calmly, “That’s a gremlin.” Great stuff.
Character is going to have to wait until tomorrow. I have quite a list, and some points I want to make - and this post is quite long enough already.
