This is a E/J topic, thou shalt be warned. Okay, so I've been wanting to do this one for a while. I want to over-analyze our culture a little and make a list of all fairytales that are a kin to the Egon and Janine relationship. A thing I like to call: Movies and shows Egon and Janine would ban their kids from watching. And since it just came out on DVD I'll start with Walt Disney's Cinderella. Lets see, A hard working woman wants a chance to impress a guy and a fairygodmother magically appears to help her, transforming her into something that he might like better....hmmmm, I wonder why this is first on the list. I have lots more, but lets see what everyone else comes up with first. ghostdiva

Never thought of that. Although I think Eden is too mature for that kind of movie, while JC would spend it holding his nose. If, of course, Janine doesn't blast the TV to bits first. ;D

I don't know... I could see them endulging in the wonderful world of Disney maybe until they are four or five. There are a lot of occult references in fairytales, so they may watch them when older just fot 'research' purposes. And Slimer likes fairytales so they might watch it with him lol. I've done quite a bit of research on the occult references in fairytales. You wouldn't believe how gruesome the originals were, I still can't believe that they are now children's stories. I could also see Eric really liking the fairytales.lol So anyway the next one on the list, still Disney, is "Beauty and the Beast" Same kind of thing really, just with a little gender swapping. Beast, has issues and a witch comes disguised and tricks him into being cursed, when she changes into a beautiful creature. He then relies on magic to try and save himself, and when he becomes hopeless and almost dies when he tries to fight for a woman he doesn't think loves him, if it weren't for pretty, but nerdy Bell, who grows to love him and confesses as much at the last possible minute, even though she believes that she had already lost him., he would have been changed permanantly. But her confession saves him and me floats up engulfed by a flood of light and changes back to his formerself. Sound familiar? ghostdiva

Yeah. The original Grimm's Fairy Tales were REALLY gruesome. But, "Beauty and the Beast" is one of my favorite movies. Maybe Paul Smart as Gaston? I think that's what Egon wished he could have done to him.

This'll probably be the only place I'll ever admit it... but I had a fondness for Beauty and the Beast, beyond an animated clock and candlarbra... it just seemed, so un Disney-like at the time, monsters and curses and all...
As for films to 'ban'... hrmm.
Maybe Flubber, about a man preoccupied with his work to the extreme that he nearly trashes his relationship with a female friend.

Beauty and the Beast is also one of my favs. Right behind Sleeping Beauty. As for magic and stuff in Disney movies check out The Blck Cauldron. It was almost banned for some of its more 'evil' content.
And I wouldn't have thought of Flubber. But it should deffinately be on the list.
The next one I thought of is Shrek. I know everyone loves shrek, but I'm sure we could see the similarities. Miss Janine mentioned Janine breaking the tv, and I think this on would definately cause that reaction. That or walking out of the theatre. Too close for home. Specifically Shrek is a 'loner' male who happens to befriend a loud mouthed Donkey (read Peter) and the meet this woman who while physically beautiful is only that way sometimes because of a spell. So she thinks that to stay that way and be happy she has to find her true love. She is under the impression that no one would love her as an ogre and she is insistent on marring tiny little Lord Farquad, when she could have Shrek. Shrek discovers her secret at the last minute and rushes to her to break the spell, revealing his true love. Then the changes into an ogre.
I have to say the scene where she changes in the church was eerily familiar. It made chills run up my spine. Almost exactly what happened to Janine. Interesting, no? ghostdiva

Breaking the TV is too ho-hum for our Janine. I thought more of a proton pack, on full. Or the molecular destabilizer... ;D

This just may be the strangest coversation I've seen on this board.
But leave it to this crowd to come up with such an interesting and insightful approach to things.
