Winston does get the short end of the stick sometimes. I guess it's exactly because he's not as flashy and/or as eccentric as the other characters. Sometimes being the straight man can be a thankless job.
The article certainly does make some very interesting points. Not that there's anything wrong with being un-biased, and it is - this person makes an interpretation of the scene that I don't entirely agree with. I guess Ray kind of isn't totally listening to what Winston has to say at first, but I wouldn't say he "casually dismisses" any of it. Ray's answer to the God question seems a reasonable one to me - "Never met him" is a rather more original way of saying, "I'm an agnostic." But yeah, it's true - Winston does indeed show himself to be very on the ball here, I guess without any scientific background or the prospect of a date clouding his judgement.
