Doesn't Al like pink? It's too bad it's still used for gender stereotyping - it's not a bad colour. Nicer than green anyway.
BTW, I didn't get the orange-on-St.-Patrick's-Day thing. Could we maybe get an explanation?

EGB Fan, orange is traditionally the colour of the Loyalist Protestants in Nothern Ireland. These Loyalists are an object of villification in America by those of Irish descent* as people who oppress the Catholic minority in the province. It's not quite as simple of course, but just to let you know, wearing orange on St. Patrick's Day in places like South Boston or New York will, er, land you in a spot of trouble, to put it rather mildly.
*that's a gross generalisation, of course...

Pink is not so much too "girlish" a colour for my tastes as it is too bright a one. I tend to prefer darker, more somber tones myself. If I ever manage to finish this story I'm working on, you'll see that this extends to my storytelling, as well. And I like green just fine, thank you. Go ahead and leave my name pink if it makes your day, bro. I don't mind a good needling in the name of a laugh...

Thanks, Joker. Hear that, everyone? I'm stupid - I know nothing. I don't mind admitting it. Just like I don't mind admitting to not liking green - no disrespect to anyone that does like it. It's all to do with hemispheres in the brain or something - I dunno. Al, you could get me started on my feelings on gender stereotyping and macho nonsense if you're not careful... but I think I'd better not. I'm writing a story that goes into it anyway - I don't plan to release it until the middle of next year but Fritz will probably get to see it early - so if you're looking for reasons to find me irritating just ask him to show it to you.

Nah...I just had to do it until I got a reaction from you. You know how I get. You'll see you're once more green--it does match your avatar better, after all... ;D

I'm not interested in starting a fight. Even less willing to hold up the troglodyte's end of an argument. Perhaps I am just sublimating the conditioning of a social architecture I very much dis-approve of. I can not honestly say for sure. But then, who isn't guilty of a little doublethink here and there...

But then, who isn't guilty of a little doublethink here and there... Don't want to start a fight?? Huh! You wimp!! Well - actually - neither do I. ;D I like to think I respect other people's opinions. That said... hmm - one Iain Bennett doesn't seem to be posting here - I'm sure he'd tell you I'm the worst kind of feminist. I'm not, but I think I may have given him that impression. Anyway, as to the "doublethink" comment (I like to invent words too) - I am definitely going to make you read this story I'm writing.

George Orwell did in his novel 1984. I merely appropriated the concept for my own purposes. I think the folks in the White House use it and the Prince as their guiding philosophical ideals...

Anyway, I want you to know that I have actually read "Nineteen Eighty Four" - but it was about five years ago so obviously I've forgotten a few of the words, including that one.

Just trying to stay honest. Wouldn't want to take credit for anything where I do not deserve it.

It's really scaring me that this is now the second longest thread on the board.

Well, you've got an interesting conversation going on. People are gonna hop on board and talk about the first thing that pops into their mind. You've also gone from talking about colors (the board is really green now) to a famous book.
Personally, I haven't read 1984, but I've heard it's pretty good.

Yes, from the new board colour to George Orwell via Northern Irish politics...these are weird times indeed.

If this was GBCentral and I was Chad, I'd probably sternly warn you that this thread has drifed waaay off topic. But since this isn't GBCentral and I'm not Chad... I'm so old I actually read 1984 for the first time...way back in 1984. All I can say is, while opening the risk of a turn into politics, I darsay Orwell was pretty prescient...but off about twenty years. Idealogical control of the media? Fox News. Check. Trumped up enemies to keep the country in a state of perpetual war and the populace scared sh*tless? Iraq. Check. Questioning the ruling regime tantamount to treason? Patriot Act. Check. I have to go snuggle my plush Pikachu now...I'm scaring myself...
