Back in 2005, I put out an Apocrypha story called "Digibusters"; the basic concept is that the Ghostbusters found themselves sucked into a world based on that of the anime series Digimon. I released two parts, and it got an okay reaction, but I never got around to working on it. Too many Ghostbusters stories that "counted" to do, and my enthusiasm for Digimon waned. Last year, Cyberturf was discontinued and the small Digimon site I had hosted there was wiped out. I didn't really have the desire, at the time, to get Digibusters re-hosted somewhere else. Well, recently, with news that the fifth season of the anime, Digimon Data Squad (Digimon Savers) is apparently on it's way to the US, and feeling tapped out somewhat on Ghostbusters stories, I finally dredged this thing out, started uploading pages to a new host, and even finally, at long last, have the third chapter of this story done. This week, I'm re-issuing the first part of the story. There were a few minor changes to the text, and the format has been adjusted to use the same stylesheets as the rest of the Ectozone. ---------------------------------- Digibusters, Part OneApocrypha Era Two: Ghostbusters 2 and Beyond A strange computer problem sends the guys and Janine into a bizzare alternate dimension that Ray recognizes as the "Digital World" straight out of the Digimon anime... ---------------------------------- The reissue of Part 2 will be out next Monday, and on May 13th (the Ectozone's fourth anniversary) will be the all-new "Digibusters Part 3"

Ah yes, I remember now. I can remember thinking that RGB and Digimon seemed a very unlikely crossover - but I suspected all along, Fritz, that you'd pull it off, and so far it seems I was right. This story is a lot of fun. ;D I also seem to remember it dredged up a lot of memories about the episodes of Digimon I did watch - not to mention the exams I was supposed to be on study leave for at the time.

I admit I pretty much tried to write this from the Ghostbuster perspective, figuring that for the most part the audience would be as unfamiliar with the Digital World as 4/5 of the Ghostbusters. Ray of course, with this taste for cartoons, would be the exception, and he could thus explain things to his friends and the GB audience at the same time. I haven't put this up at any of the Digimon board yet, so I'm not as sure how it works for someone who knows squad about Ghostbusters. There's one or two who might get it (there was a thread on "Cartoons that need to be put on DVD" at Digital Dive, and when I mentioned RGB a few people chimed in with agreement) but in another way, since the Ghostbusters get swooped up at the very beginning, their "real" job isn't very important. If you haven't checked the Gallery page, there's some links at the bottom to some pages that might help you keep track of things.

The visual aids really add to this. Increasingly bizarre Digimon is one of the things I remember from watching those episodes way back when. I am now very interested to see part 3 (at which time I expect I'll come up with some more interesting comments, as it'll be something completely new).

I put in the little pictures for two reasons. 1. It conveys things a lot better than me trying to describe them 2. In the Digimon shows, they have "Analyzer" screens come up every time a new critter is introduced, putting up a portrait and some statistics. Most of the time the stats and stuff are in Japanese, but to most GB fans those Digimon attributes might as well be Japanese anyway This is sorta my own nod to that quirk.

Holy crap...after two years, an actual continuation of this story! Digibusters, Part ThreeApocrypha Era Two: Ghostbusters 2 and Beyond The Digibusters are scattered; Venkman and Winston deal with weirdos on the train who actually make it a relief when they get attacked; Egon and Janine, meanwhile, deal with Serpahimon's startling transformation into a little creature with one oddly familiar attribute... The first part will be a little bizarre; I was chanelling some very surreal shows I watch at that point (I won't say anymore yet...) while the second finally gets around to a joke I've been waiting years to spring...

The first part will be a little bizarre... Yeah... I recognised the very heavy nod to Pokemon's Team Rocket (in spite of not having watched very much of that either). Thank goodness for a bit of familiarity in Biyomon and Palmon (ah yes, it's all coming back to me now). And Patamon, aww, he's just cute (as was TK - oddly enough the bit I most remember was to do with TK and his relationship with his parents, there were no Digimon involved at all). I had a look on the Internet Movie Database, and I see that my suspicions were correct: Patamon was voiced by Laura Summer, which Fritz has probably mentioned at some point but I can't possibly remember that. (I put a similar joke in my Danny Phantom crossover: "Whoa, Kylie! You sounded exactly like Star!" or something). Well, what else can I say? It is certainly as surreal as ever it was.

The first part will be a little bizarre... Yeah... I recognised the very heavy nod to Pokemon's Team Rocket (in spite of not having watched very much of that either). Yeah, well, I was in a wierd state of mind when writing most of Venkman and Winston's segment. I was trying to channel some surreal, random humor elements from shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Bo-bobobo-bobobo (another show with a fair number of Digimon vets) and the Pokemon jokes found their way into the mix somehow. SnowAgumon is close, too--he's a variant of Agumon, Tai's Digimon in Season 1. TK does have one of the more interesting family dynamics of the series. He has an older brother, Matt Ishida, the one with Gabumon/Garurumon (ect.) but their parents divorced and the brothers were split up--TK ended up with their Mom, and she changed his last name to her maiden name, Takaishi (that's why Matt and TK have different last names) That was the joke I was waiting years to do... ;D Kumqhat allesandro Gressorial!!!

Digibusters, Part FourApocrypha Era Two--Ghostbusters 2 And Beyond Ray Stantz and Veemon are on the run, separated from the others, and get stuck in the middle when two angry, artillery laden android Digimon decide to have a showdown. And where is the last Beast Spirit?

That's a great line. ;D And a precursor to Tentomon, of course - I can't remember now why I liked him, but I was still happy to see him. Tankdramon. Niiiiiiiiiice. It's just like an episode of Digimon (i.e. mad), but with some rather more PG language.

That's a great line. ;D And a precursor to Tentomon, of course - I can't remember now why I liked him, but I was still happy to see him. Well, I know I liked him because he was one of the ones who got the best lines. I guess that fact that he didn't have a moving mouth to match up to, and the head writer for most of Tentomon's run just happened to be the guy doing his voice, contributed to that. He's a more recent creation, probably only a couple years old, from Bandai's Japanese virtual pets. A little more here: digimon.ectozone.net/codex/tankdramon.htmlKinda like the way I write my RGB stories too...
