So is anyone else psyched about the new Harry Potter book?? It comes out 3 days before my birthday and I've been dropping hints the size of boulders. At least.

I'm pretty exciting about this, too and I can't wait to read the sixith book when does it come out? July 16th. I'm almost certain. If I'm wrong then sorry, but I don't think I am. What a great way to surreptitiously let everyone know my birthday! ;D (Just add 3 to July 16th, ok? ) So does anyone know anything? Who's the half-blood prince? I don't know how he found out, but my brother reckons it's not Voldermort or Harry. I wondered if maybe it was someone we don't really know about yet. Zacharias Smith springs to mind - he was all over Order of the Phoenix but there wasn't a lot of point in him, so maybe he'll be important in the next one. Y'know, cos she does that - with Scabbers and Luna Lovegood and Cedrick Diggory and people.

I am totally ready for the sixth book. The fifth one kinda pissed me off because of who died, but it had a ton of action that I can't wait to see on film when they finally get around to that one. Right now we're only getting the fourth movie in November, but I think the sixth book will tide me over until than. I might have to re-read all the others so it'll fit in better.
As for who the Half-Blood Prince is...no idea. For some reason there was talk of Neville having something to do with everything because he was born on the same day as Harry. Who knows though. It could be anyone, but I'm sure when we figure out who it is it'll all make perfect sense.

My brother thought of Neville (we've been talking about it for months), but he's actually pure-blood so it can't be him. My money is still on Zacharias Smith.
I actually get more excited about the books than the movies. Books last longer, and I'm kind of a bookworm anyway (or geek, if you'd rather).

The fourth movie will be coming out in November. I believe sometime around Thanksgiving, but I don't know the exact date and if it comes out during that month it's just easy to say around Thanksgiving.

Well, my brother picked up the hints, because he is not blind and deaf. I started reading HP & the Half-Blood Prince on Tuesday. I guess I'm about... ummm... a quarter of the way in. I'm just about to read the chapter titled "The Half-Blood Prince", but from what I hear it will leave me with more questions than answers (as indeed a good book should).
In hardback, the book looks like a big'un, but it's quite a bit shorter than Order of the Phoenix, which is a relief in some ways. It's still 600-and-something pages, so it'll keep us busy for a while.
In, like, the first 2 or 3 chapters Rowling sets up some intriguing mysteries, just to make sure you keep reading. If you start this book you'll soon be dying to know the truth about Snape, what Malfoy is up to and what happened to Dumbledore's hand. And, if you're anything like me, you'll probably have a bad reaction to Bill Weasley's news. We can only hope that there's more to it than meets the eye, and that he doesn't go through with it...

Hm - no replies. Has anyone else started reading it?
I finished it last night. I was up until 3am reading, which I had no intention of doing, but for the last 6-odd chapters I just couldn't put it down. It's that gripping - and this series is definitely getting darker. The flow was marred considerably, though, just for a few seconds while I lamented over the appearance of that non-word "themself". JK, I am disappointed in you.
While I wouldn't dream of giving away what happens at the end, I will tell you that it is CRUEL. I was left with a feeling of having been slapped in the face repeatedly. I found it upsetting and disturbing, and I think if I was less than about 12 it would have traumatised me considerably, or at least scared me quite a lot.
That's not to say that I didn't enjoy the book. As I say, I was hooked, and before the seriously dark stuff the plot was intriguing. Dumbledore's Pensieve features heavily, which means we find out a lot of history, and there are a couple of mysteries I was dying to find out about, not the least of which was the identity of the Half-Blood Prince. See if you can figure it out... I didn't.
The problem is that I think JK goes overboard a little with the romance, but I guess that's what teenagers are like. There was a bit of pairing up, one of which I expected, the rest of which I found rather disappointing.
And now, I don't think I can wait for the final instalment (or perhaps penultimate - I understand there's some uncertainty). When you're done reading, please start thinking about who R.A.B. might be and report back here with any ideas!

Sorry...I forget there's actually a board where Harry Potter can be talked about in a civilized manner without certain people insulting those who decided to use their time in a more intellectual capacity and actually use their mind to do something other then come up with new bad words to call people.
*SLIGHTLY SPOILERY*
Anyway, I read something about RAB being part of the Black family, which might make sense considering Harry inherited the house and there's a possibility he'll find more clues there even after everyone's been there over the past year or two.
Overall though I really didn't like the book. One of my favorite character's died and I was already upset about the fact that Sirius had died then I had to deal with this, but after reading some theories from various people and seeing the mention of phoenixes it may not be the last time we see him in some kind of form.
And have to say that it did feel a bit rushed in some areas. I was left with questions about so many actions, thoughts and words. I hope there are very good explanations in the final book or she'll have to carry on some more so there won't be an uproar from angry fans.
Oh, and what did people think about the dating situations? I was surprised, disappointed and slightly confused. I think battles will begin much like the one whether or not Janine and Egon should be together. Personally I kinda thought Harry and Ginny would actually make it, but alas it did not happen and I felt bad for both of them. But what do you think the odds of Ron and Hermione actually getting together? I'm guessing it'll probably happen especially since she's been hinting at this for a while and I hope they do work out because someone should end up happy in this series.
Okay, that's my two cents. I'm actually glad I get to say that without someone coming up and telling me what an idiot I am for caring about the future lives of fictional characters.

Ron and Hermione are heading for a happily ever after, I hope. I've always thought they would.
Y'know, Malfoy is really growing on me. I think his many many fans are gonna love this one.
From what the narrative said, I think we might see CENSORED again as a picture. The thing with paintings is, they're not like ghosts, but they can interact with you, unlike photographs. They seem to retain memories and personalities - kind of like clones, I guess. You know, like in that Spiderman cartoon. (Or maybe you don't know.)
VERY SMALL SPOILER ALERT
I wasn't too fussed about Sirius dying in "Phoenix", to be honest with you - I didn't really like him that much, and he wasn't SOOO important. But this one upset me. The thing is, with this ending, it undermines everything we thought we knew. We had a lot of hope riding on our certainties with two particular characters - if you've read it, you know who I mean.

I read the next book and I thought it was good and I enjoyed it very much, it took me to read it in a couple of days though it was good, but I was upset when Dumbledore died that's the only part I didn't like. But other than that it was good.

Y'know, I'm slowly starting to get into this. I haven't got any of the books yet, but I've finally sat down and watched the first two movies, and we have the third so it's only a matter of time. And I'm not totally ignorant of what happens in later books, between some of the threads on various boards (ie I saw Chamber of Secrets knowing all along that Tom Riddle was Voldemort because venkmanfan49 kept making jokes about Matthew Riddle being a relative of his) and an article that Time magazine printed only a few weeks ago. I know I'm already rooting for them. The end of Chamber of Secrets reminded me a hell of a lot of the way me and the real person Chelsea Aberdeen is based on have been known to act. I'll be interested in seeing what provokes that reaction...as of the end of Chamber of Secrets I wouldn't shed a tear if the little bastard and his asshole father were both sat upon by trolls and squashed (in fact, I'd probably cheer )

Well. Malfoy sees a lot of character development, about 90% of it in the latest book. When you get there, Fritz, you might want to give him a chance. Or maybe not - I dunno. Malfoy has a loyal following of fans who have some interesting ideas about him, and who put them all over ff.net. Some of them are a bit strange, if I'm honest (the ideas, that is - and possibly the fans, though I don't know) - but as I say, they're gonna like what JK does with him in Half-Blood Prince.
