I'd sort of hinted at Dana being at the root of Louis's affections before in one part of "Chronicles of Gozer"...I'm actually a bit pleasantly surprised it seemed to shock people. Glad you all approved. Well, it showed that they were both just using each other, that there was never any real love there in the relationship (which makes up for that horrid bit in movie two *shudder*) and that means Egon has no real competition for Janine after all, since Louis didn't actually love her (if Louis could actually be counted as "competition" anyway...lol). And now that I think about it, especially after watching the two movies a couple of nights ago, you had the right idea in your story. Louis loved Dana, that much was obvious. Yet with Janine, there was nothing there to indicate actual love, just lust. I can just imagine what Louis' thoughts must have been when she came on to him: 'Great, first Dana hooks up with that Venkman guy, completely ignoring me despite what the both of us had been though (what with the whole terror dog thing) and then she ended up having a kid with a completely different guy! It's hopeless now I guess. 'Wait, this lady (Janine) is flirting pretty heavily with me. Could she like me? Well...she's not Dana, but she'll do.' Or something like that anyway.

In some of the earliest outlines I did of this story (when it was still part of "Forever") Egon's the one saving her, but I thought "Nah. How many times has that happened? At least twice ("The Crawler" being the other one that came to mind) so let's have HER save HIM." Ok, well, good. It's nearly always the men saving the women in these cartoons from way back in the C20th (I think I saw an RGB ep fairly recently in which Janine was being held captive on a train for some reason, and she had to be rescued by all four of them). Like, recently, I watched the entire series of EGB all the way through (some wonderful man had recorded them all from TV and was selling them on E-Bay, and someday I'm going to marry him, or else Kingpin for telling me about it), and I noticed that a lot of Ed/Ky moments are rescues. Off the top of my head, I think he saves her life 5 times (though I may have to go back and count again), plus one time with Roland's help, and she saves his once. I think that was pretty short-sighted of the writers, seeing as Kylie is definitely depicted as the more competant Ghostbuster. (She also saves Roland once, and Garrett once with Eduardo's help... I may have to count all the rescues, and then maybe get a life.) Um, yeah, sorry. I already commented on the story by e-mail, which is why I haven't posted here yet. I expect I would have spotted the connection between Fritz's rescue scene and "Janine, You've Changed", had I ever seen that ep, because I am an extremely perceptive and highly intelligent sort of person, as you all have no doubt noticed. But anyway, now that it's been pointed out, that's a nice touch.

Just so ya know (I love to help), the Janine-on-a-train-getting-rescued is "Ghost Busted"- and I STILL want a screen cap of that hug!!! ;D I have no real excuse for not getting it... I can get it screengrabbed tomorrow. Janine has peformed her own resuce attempts, she save the guys in Janine Melnitz, Ghostbuster and also 'protecting the fort' in Janine's Day Off. ( Mr. Sandman, Dream Me A Dream is more of a grey area as that was a dream created Janine) She has prooven to not be a regular Lois Lane... she's competant in a fight as long as nobody gets the better of her. Something 'someone' would never give her credit for... but enough about that. As for EGB, she saved their collective butts in Temporary Insanity.

What about Janine's Genie? Yeah, she kind of caused it, but she also was the one who stopped it.

So you just had to post htis on a day I was out of town. Shame on you lol. Anyway, bravo. As far as the Egon/Janine/Louis/Dana thing goes...Do we share a brain? (checks brain...no, just me.) Hmm. Sometimes it certainly seems like we do. lol. Though I'm still in the dark about nodus, though I can guess where its going to a certain extent. My only nitpick is that it was a little Vincent heavy (Sorry Vincent). And that the finnal showdown could have been a little more action packed. Otherwise I really like it, though it doesn't tie me over till "Forever" I'm gonna re-read all of it then I'll probably have some more specific things to say (I know you're looking forward to that lol.) ghostdiva

Vincent's my buddy, so I wanted to make sure he didn't feel like I was cutting him out of the story. I was actually a little worried that he'd be mad at me for taking him out of it after the first round.
As for the 'action" thing...first, I'm the first to admit that fights aren't my storng suit--I'm just not Akira Toriyama, capable of writing one battle that lasts 200 pages. And at the same time I also think I have this tendancy to have stories end with big explosions (being raised on George Lucas movies does that, I guess) and distinctly DIDN'T want to do that here.
Louis isn't a monster or a genuine enemy...he's a friend and ally who's had his tortured past utilized by the real enemy here (Nodus) for ends that remain intentionally nebulous (for now...heh heh heh...) Blowing him up was not an option--especially as we "know" he's fated to still be around and active as GBI's Chief Financial Officer to the present day.

Actually I noticed that everytime Ed saved Kylie, she would save him back in the same episode. I always thought that was a See I'm not to stupid to save you statement from Ed and a See I'm not to feminine to save you statement from Kylie. I thought it was their way of flirting with each other. They would say things like, "Hey you saved my life, I owe you one" followed by a "Hey you just saved me, now we're even." I thought it was cute, we can take this over to their thread if you want. As for the battle scene, I was actually hoping Louis would try to kick Peter's butt though, don't ask why, cause I don't know. Oh well, maybe one day. ghostdiva

You know, if I really wanted to be a b***h...
Peter: "Oh, sure, Louis, you still have a job...where you can spend everyday being reminded of the two women you can't have! You get to watch Egon and Janine drown in their happiness with each other, and I'll make sure Dana comes by every once in a while...and that she brings Jessica with her! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!"
But I'm basically a nice person...

At one point I had a bit of a darker ending in mind, but when I actually wrote it all down it just didn't work for me anymore. It involved Venkman taking Louis aside, after all was said and done, and doing something like this...
Louis: So am I fired?
Venkman: No. That would be arbitrary and mean spirited.
(Venkman leans in close, and gives Louis his most intense look)
Venkman: But I swear to God, you do anything...anything that can even remotely construed as trying to mess things up for them ever again...I'll make your life such a living hell you'll be begging me to fire you...
But, again, knowing they all had to "get along", and the way everything actually played out, made the nastiness of such a scene not work for me--it disrupted the essentially "bygones be bygones" mood at the end.
But if you want to say that Venkman gave Louis such a warning off camera somewhere, that's fine with me.

The strange thing is, I can easily see Peter doing that, especially since Louis also had a thing for Dana, who is now Peter's wife. Peter was always pretty defensive of Egon, though, and now that Egon and Janine are finally officially getting married ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D , he wants to make sure it sticks.

Nah, I don't think so - that's bordering on obsessive. As I've always said, it's up to Egon and Janine to make it stick. It's nothing to do with Louis, nor with Peter, certainly not now. I already think Peter overreacted - now he really needs to leave it alone.
