I have to say, I've been kind of on the other side of one of those debates myself, many years ago now. As a child I was a big fan of Bucky O'hare and the Toad Wars, and I have watched it in my adult life, and I still don't see anything other than close friendship in what seems to be a very popular ship. There is no mental block - I am in no way touched or excited by anthropomorphic green rabbits - I simply don't see it. Going back a few posts - can one really find comfort in the notion that the object of one's (heterosexual) desire is gay? (And they're all just cartoon characters anyway. )

Um, how much of the 'pairing' is in your head, and how much is real, hmm? It's in a kids show because it's not what you think it is. It's the way they interpret these things - like when Egon utters Janine's name in Ragnarok and Roll. To most, it's a meaningful and touching last-minute dedication to the woman he's always loved and yet hasn't quite had the courage to say aloud. To others, it's nothing more than a quaint acknowledgement to a friend. It's weird, but some people see subtext everywhere - especially when it comes to shows designed specifically for a young audience. Some of the creators of these things have been known to slip in the odd 'adult' joke or reference as a nod and a wink to older audiences, but most of the time these people are just looking for something that really isn't there. Don't get me started on some of the Harry Potter fan pairings, which even JK Rowling has unequivocally stated will not happen, and yet which some fans will swear blind that there is 'evidence' of in the books or films. Trust me, nothing can be more terrifying then the idea of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy as a couple. Execpt possibly Snape getting... 'M-Preg'. There's some stuff they shouldn't allow on DeviantArt.

I agree with that.

There's some stuff they shouldn't allow on DeviantArt. There are. Things involving consenting adults that one can't really describe using words that are considered appropriate to Pro-Boards. And yet freedom of speech seems to extend to all forms of bigotry; art featuring a Swastika, for example, cannot be touched. I won't apologise for my views, but I'll stop now so this thread can get back on-topic.

To compare to an earlier post, now that the show's had six episodes Phantom Girl (also known as Apparition)Tinya Wazzo of Bgztl Power: Can become intangible Tinya Wazzo is the daughter of Winema Wazzo, a political figure on Bgztl, a planet that exists in an alternate dimension--Phantom Girl can become intangible because she's actually partially phasing back home. In some versions, Tinya is or becomes Phase, a member of the Twentieth Century superteam LEGION. Tinya is usually romantically linked with Ultra Boy (Jo Nah of Rimbor). In one continuity, they marry and have a son, "Cub" A lot of that still holds, her Mom is still a political figure (I can't remember if they said what). She met Ultra Boy in one episode, and they made eyes at each other some. Definitely the most changed: in the cartoon Brainy is a robot. It seems like his blond little boy form is an illusion or disguise, and a giant robot is his true form--it more matches other Coluans seen in the series. But most unnerving of all...he's so darn nice. That ain't right. Plus he's aquired a crew of QuerlsBabe fans as mentioned above... Still holding--she and Garth's flirtation has been very low key, but there's a very small hint dropped once in a while. They call him Superman, and he's kind of a mish-mash of various versions, including Smallville. He's still learning his powers when the Legion scoops him up, and the first episode is the first time Clark ever puts on his costume. Brother Mekt appears in one episode, though there's no sign of him having the same powers (but nothing that totally disputes it, either). Ayla hasn't appeared, but there was a hint of her existance in one episode, where they encounter an illusion of Garth's bedroom back home--and it includes a second, pink bed. Believe it or not, Mar Londo was even more of a dirtbag than in the comics. Ayla, as mentioned, has not appeared...though Brin has shown some subtle interest in both Imra and Tinya at times. Still the comedian of the group; a new wrinkle is a love of old monster movies, including one that has to be Alien. Hasn't made a full appearance, though was seen once in a monitor and referred to in a seperate episode. He'll be appearing late in the season, and his voice is by Wil Wheaton. Seen in "Champions", the same episode that introduced Ultra Boy and Mekt Ranzz. Have appeared twice; the major change so far is that the Emerald Empress is the leader instead of Tharok

Shame that 'insignia' can never be returned to it's more peaceful origins... Indeed. How many people here are aware that before the nazis adopted it, the swastika (or more properly sauvastika) was a venerated hindu symbol of good fortune? It's still recognized in that vein in most of asia. I guess this just proves that there's nothing that some jerk or other can't ruin.
