Ghostbusters: A Boy Named Ray
This was the first GB fic I ever wrote, and I've left it off for too long. The title itself is a tongue in cheek homage to the Johnny Cash song "A Boy named Sue". That song, the original Shel Silverstein poem, and Fritz , Benjy, and Riddle's original Fact List led me to do a Ray-centric story, since (at the time) there was were so few Ray tales that actually took the character seriously (except what Sheila Paulson did and what Fritz is doing).
The premise of the stories was to tell a little bit about Ray's lfie and events that would shape him up to being "the heart of the Ghostbusters". There was going to be a whole series that I had outlined, beginning with his childhood, then seguing into how he met Venkman and Spengler, and finally the revelation as to who his wife and the mother of Eric Stantz is. Those ideas sort of fell to the wayside, as I got busy with other projects that did and didn't involve Ghostbusters. I've only recently restarted work on that series, beginning with A Boy Named Ray after a former teacher of mine found it very engrossing (she wasn't a ghostbusters fan, but found the story itself very good) and wanted me to continue it. Coupled with Kingpin's comment a while ago if I had finished it at GBHQ, I'm working hard on what I think will be a pretty scandlous chapter of "Ray", as well as putting equal time on how Ray, Draverhaven, Peter, and Egon first met each other (it sort of embodies some aspects of "Ghostbusting 101", I'll say that much).
So I've decided to post up the four original chapters before I release that last, long-awaited Chapter 5. Looking back on how I wrote the thing two years ago, it almost feels like a dystopian version of the Wonder Years format.
