I've always wondered what the exact timeframe is for when Dana started restoring Vigo's portrait. Rob believes that it could be around November of 88 (which seems likely enough) but I'm of the mind that if it was in any tarnished condition like most old paintings, it would have taken a little longer to restore, so I'm leaning towards late 87 early 88 for the most part.
What do you think?

I think Dana didn't restore it at all. There's no evidence in the movie to suggest that she does - the only person we see working on it is Janozs, right before Vigo enslaves him. I seem to remember there's mention of the painting having "just come up from storage" - it could have been there for any number of years, and goodness knows whether anybody did anything to it beforehand.
Edit: It has just occurred to me that this topic belongs in the movies board, so I'm moving it (from Ectozone Ghostbusters, that is).

Yeah in fact she restores a totally different painting when the "Vigo" comes in. And she always sits on a seperate easel during the museum scenes involving her. I checked it yesterday.
Concerning the tarnishing: We have some pretty old pictures at home and when they were restored in 1999 I didn't even think they needed it! I don't know anything about restoring so I don't know what kind of damage the Vigo painting might have had.

Okay, I pulled out my GB2 and you guys are right about Dana. My memory was a tad fuzzy on that part. And since I was re-watching it, I did realize that it looks as though it did just come up from the museum's storage so that would reckon it to be at least late fall of 1988, which fits within the timeframe.
Which brings me to my next question: is there a specific reason Vigo choose 1990 as the dawn of a new age, beyond it being the New Year? I can't find any real occult reason for it other than what's in the movie and it's bugging me.

Hmm I rather think he chose the new millenium. You see Oscar body would be just 2 years old in 1990 (correct me if I am mistaken) By 2000 he would be 12 and physically and mentally far more capable.
But it's just a thought.
