Does anyone here watch this show besides me? I've been watching it on Nickelodeon recently. If you haven't seen it, it's about a teenager whose parents are ghost hunters (sound familiar?) who accidentally acquires the ability to change ito ghost form...so he can fight evil ghosts and the like. It's actually pretty good. It's reminiscent of Ghostbusters without being too derivative of it, and it's got some pretty good villains, gadgets, and characters. Not to mention some great voice talent - David Kaufman (aka Dexter Douglas of "Freakazoid!") as Danny, Rob Paulsen (who's had more cartoon roles than I've had hot dinners) and Kath Soucie (ditto) as his parents, and Ron Perlman as Danny's English teacher, Mr. Lancer.
Is anyone here familiar with the series?

Don't look at me. I haven't watched a single minute of Nickelodeon in the last...five years, I think.

Coincidentally I watched it for the first time last night. I'd had a long day and I just felt like watching TV - there wasn't much on and I couldn't be bothered to shove a video into the slot. It was actually pretty good - Danny's excellent - I might well watch it again.

I watched it again. I love it. I love him. It's going on my non-GB-fanfiction to-do list.

I watched the first episode of the show when it came out and it felt a bit GB-ish. It's not a must watch show on my list, but if I have some time I'll sit down and watch it.

Hey look - a discussion on Danny Phantom! I posted twice, it seems - I'd forgotten all about it! This is so exciting! ;D I... don't suppose anybody else wants to talk about Danny Phantom? (I can't really talk much about it with the fan community, it seems - most of them have got one brain between them, with the obvious exception of anyone smart enough to come by here and view this board.) Well, yeah, I think I've made it clear how much I like Danny Phantom. It is now my second favourite cartoon, which is weird - it's the first new one I picked up in a while. It just goes to show, I guess, that you're never too old.

I hate this show to death. It's characters are one demensional, the "ghosts" are rejects from DC's bin, and the "let's kill the mood with a bad joke at the end" are the worst. Also that "Reality Trip" special blatently rips-off Marvel with it's gauntlet that has to be powered by gems. And you can thank this show for the crappiness of the final episodes of The Fairly Oddparents had taken. BTW it's cancelled too.

Yeah, I know. Apparently some people marched on New York in protest, which seems a bit extreme to me. Three seasons is plenty (altogether about 10 more episodes than EGB got), and ok, it has started to have some pretty bad episodes, "Reality Trip" being one of those. But everything has its ups and downs. When it's good, in my opinion, it's really good; and when it's bad it still has its moments. I shall stand by Danny and the gang to the end.

I like the show I think I've seen all the episodes and it's not that bad I'll get the DVD's if they ever come out . I can see that it takes a lot from RGB. I like the villains although the RGB could bust them faster then slimer can eat a cake they're are two thing that make me mad on the show . 1) Danny's attitude to most of the predicaments he gets in to . If he just thought of the consequences of his actions be for he ax on them he may have less problems . But I can chock that up to being a teenager . 2) the fact that his parents are so convinced that all ghost's are evil . to me that is the biggest out rage even before I joined GBWC and met Rachel I new not all ghost's weir bad one of the lessons I learned from RGB and a lot of ghost documentaries . Here is a fik I fond were Danny's parents are kind-of put in they're place by the RGB . www.fanfiction.net/s/2944648/1/It's OK but I would like to see one dun more to Fritz's time line all in all it's a good show and I would like it if it existed in the RGB universe . be-for you flame me I mean in the same way Fritz puts April from TMNT in his story's if some one does do a full cross over there is a way it can kind-of fit In Danny Phantom there is a episode were we see Danny's parents as kids in the 80's and they're learning about ghost's in hie school or college ( I'm not sher ) in GB1 Peter does give the line ( But the kids love us ) so he could be referring to Danny's parents.

In Fritz's defense, his are joking/nodding references. It's one thing to name a character 'April O'Neil' off camera'... it's another to have the Ghostbusters go to Channel 6 News, and meet April and the TMNT... and Shredder, and Krang.

For me, one of the most appealing things about DP is that its characters are so outrageously flawed, and from this simple fact stem most of the jokes. Jack and Maddie (Mom and Dad)'s obsession with ghosts, and with destroying them, is an unsubtle and some might say over-used running gag that provides about 75% of Maddie's character development, and about 90% of Jack's. They can never realise for themselves that not all ghosts are evil, never mind be told. We-ell... maybe Maddie could, after her character has grown a little (which she starts to do towards the middle/end of season 1). But never Jack. Jack is blind and deaf to everything outside his own world. He has even been helped directly by Danny Phantom (whom he doesn't recognise as his son - done well enough to be funny) a couple of times, and still won't accept that he isn't evil. This is a character trait that Danny has inherited from his dad. He's tremendously insensitive and, to begin with, this was the sole reason why he couldn't realise that he and Sam are obviously meant to be together forever and ever (what is it about Goth girls and insensitive guys that makes such gripping ships?) - but then of course Butch decides to complicate things with the beginnings of a love triangle involving ghost-hunter Valerie Gray towards the end of season 1 (Danny has something of a roving eye and already has the hots for the beautiful and vaccuous Paulina, but now he has real feelings for Valerie... though wrong ). Danny is also immature, even for fourteen. The whole thing is a little bit Kim Possible in that regular teenager problems - who's taking whom to the dance, what grade they're going to get on their flour baby assignment etc. - is more important to Danny than saving lives. He's short-sighted, is not very much on the ball and cuts a lot of corners, always resulting in repurcussions of course. When he sees a vision of the future, in which he is evil and pretty much killing everyone with a power he didn't know he had, his reaction is, "Whoa! What a cool power!" Then he notices the withering looks from his two best friends/sidekicks and adds, "If... it weren't being used for evil," obviously not meaning it - it's entertaining stuff. ;D And Jason is right in that these are his potentially fatal flaws (although they're not going to kill him or anyone else in a fun cartoon like this). Sometimes, Danny will seem to learn from his mistakes and grow. But inevitably he always finds himself back at square one - and I will say, there does seem to be some disagreement between the writers about just how clueless he really is. There are some interesting possibilities for crossover. I can't help comparing the Fenton Portal to the Containment Unit; Danny empties the ghosts he's caught from the Fenton Thermos (it's really fun. isn't it ;D) into the portal leading to the Ghost Zone... aaand then they're back a few episodes later. I think Danny would very much like a Containment Unit. Of course, the Ghost Portal is solely responsible for all of the ghost trouble in Amity Park - I do wonder they don't just turn it off (it has a simple on/off switch), but then I guess there wouldn't be a show. Anyway, Jack may be a total idiot but his ghost-catching equipment really works. It's all too comically outrageous for GB, really - but I have considered writing a crossover. If I did I'd use EGB (naturally ), and I wouldn't try to fit it into the Timeline - it'd just be a fun little piece of apocrypha.

You people are actually making me vaguely curious about this show.
I do remember when it started, and somebody talked about it on GBN, mentioning Danny was sorta "half human, half ghost" and people wondering "how does that work?"
And I made some snarky comment about Ray Stantz finding out that the Fort Detmerring ghost has been keeping something from him...

Oh, oh how marvellous! I really didn't think this discussion would take off after I tried to revive it. You people are actually making me vaguely curious about this show. Maybe you should watch it. ;D Well, seriously, I'm not going to say with any conviction that you would or wouldn't like the show, because I don't ever remember you offering an opinion one way or the other about anything at all like it. I will say, however, that it is definitely something for the inner child (if you've grown out of being an actual child, that is); there's not a lot of subtlety or depth to it, and it is mostly just for fun. I dunno... maybe you'd enjoy one of the episodes featuring Vlad. He is the most wonderful villain. My brother likes him too, because he's got a thing about misunderstood evil people. Basically Vlad is the only other human/ghost hybrid ever (unless you listen to the Mary Sues of the DP fan community); he was at college with Maddie and Jack, and had a little accident just like Danny's (which I'll get onto in a moment), caused of course by Jack's incompetance. He's been in love with Maddie ever since before it happened, and now... I'd even go so far as to say it's too complicated to explain right now. Seriously, Butch and co. really have built up something of an epic story with these characters. Valerie interferes with the Danny/Sam ship a little bit, but she was a good addition, especially when you take into account her involvement with Vlad (watch and find out ). All of these things make it a show about love, and hate, and friendship, and revenge, and sadness, and growing up, as well as the trials of superherodom - I don't know if you'd noticed, but I've really got into it. ;D Haha, well, I can't really explain any better than the opening theme song. There's no real explanation for it; Danny went to check out the Fenton Portal which wasn't working, accidentally flicked the on/off switch and came out with ghost powers. He can use his powers when he isn't in ghost form, but only a little - when he's battling evil he morphs into ghost form, usually with an ostentatious cry of, "I'm going ghost!" - it's so cool. Some visual aids: Danny Fenton, Danny Phantom and, oh look, here's what the transformation sequence sort of looks like. I thought about listing his powers just then, but I think maybe there are a few too many and I'd just end up sounding like, I dunno, some kind of Danny Phantom geek or something.
